"Muskie sightings?"

Hi guys. Just wondering from a distance - Any muskie sightings on the lake yet this year? How about northern pike - anyone fishing for them up there yet?
Thanks.
Bhomis

Muskies are moving pretty good. This afternoon I boated a 48 and 43 and saw several others that were pretty hot. One was on rocks/weeds where a creek enters the lake and the other was on a point. Saw others on points also. Rocks and current seem to be the answer. The water has stopped rising, is clear and weeds are either feast or famine. Love this clear water, though. Hope it lasts. Tomorrow afternoon we'll try again to get my daughter a muskie. Small bucktails with trailers were what caught them both. If fact that's what's been working good all season. Last week I saw the largest muskie I've seen in 25 years and only the third true 60" muskie in my lifetime. It was in a strong current area. Also saw a 52" muskie just 30 feet away. Six muskies in a 200 foot stretch of shoreline in between two islands in a strong current. I was talking to myself for several hours afterward. I've been fishing muskies on LOTW for 52 years and have caught my share of 50+ inch fish. But this was a thrill.

Well keep up the good work,Rpieske. And I hope the muskie sighting is close to where I'll be staying at when I come up in Sept 23th thur the 30th. Need all the help I can get. You know where that is. We talked earlier this year. Keep me informed on how things go. I'll wait until late Aug. to start buying more lures to see what is hot this year . I have alot of not so hot lures already... And good luck with your daughter if she is with you she will catch one. Talk to you soon. Chris

Very nice! I hope we have that kind of luck when we get there. Keep up the good luck.
Small bucktails with trailers, hmm? Good to know. Thank you very much. I'm heading up to the lake in two weeks and I need to check out the catalogs & order some last minute lures. Do you have any personal recommendations as far as which specific lures I should get and/or which colors?
How about northerns? Are there a good number of those mixed in as well? I remember last year there was a lot of talk about how plentiful and how much bigger they were. Is that the case this year as well?
Thanks again,
Bruce

Here are the lures that have been the best producers for me for the past three years:

Buchertail 500 in sunset
Crane Bait 300 series in white with black stripes
Grandma lure in black with prism finish
Mepps #5 silver blade with red bucktail
Bucher Topraider black with orange tail
Bucher Slopmaster hammered silver blade black or brown hair.
Manta in crappie pattern or orange with black stripe

I always use a split tailed grub for trailer on bucktails. These basic lures will pretty well keep you in the zone for almost all situations. I have caught hundreds of muskies on the Buchertail lure. It is my confidence lure. The Slopmaster is tops for fishing weeds. Replace the swivel and splitrings on the blade with ones of better quality or you will lose the blade. Good luck!
