"Miles Bay Report"
| |
Was up from July 29-August 7. A couple of very hot, humid and still days, one day of steady 35 mph winds (in 13 trips I've never seen it blow as hard and long as it did last Thurs.) and the rest was pleasant and in the 70s. Walleyes were on the edges of mid-lake humps and were smaller than average and a little slower than average. Spent parts of a couple days on the humps between Morson and Dawson with little success. The water south of Painted Rock was much dirtier (not algae bloom, just dirty) than the water north and west. Smallies were abundant and came on plastics cast and retreived in rocky shoreline. In only four hours of muskie fishing landed a 40" fish on black/silver bucktail and lost a larger fish due to poor hook set technique. Eastwind returns today from a long weekend so hopefully he'll post a report. I'm back up Oct. 7-16 for the annual fall trip. |

Hading up on Sun. for a couple of weeks. Did you do any good on walleyes in Miles Bay? We usually do well this time of the year along the north and east shore lines in Miles. Were the smallies hitting in Miles also. We have had poorer success on the reefs to the west of Morson this year. Will post a report when we get back. Have to get ready for duck season also. |

Fished Miles Bay last weekend and picked up a few. Not big and not fast and furious but caught enough for a meal. We also tried the reefs out west with little luck. Back up in two weeks, I'll report back. |

Dick, We did about average on the eyes in Miles. It seemed this year there were more boats fishing the walleye spots in Miles than I've seen in past years. Several times I had to go to three or four spots before I could find one without a boat. When the weather cooperated we caught fish, but like Jones said, enough for a meal but not too fast and not too big. The humps west of Morson were real slow. If you're willing to travel, the spots starting at Rubber Island and west to Sabaskosing are usually good. We caughts lots of crayfish jigging for walleye (like enough for etouffee) and when that starts I usually go somewhere else because the walleye shut down. Does anyone else catch crayfish up there? All of our smallies came in chunk rock shoreline in Miles. They're a blast to catch and release. |
