What area of the lake are you going to be at?
Are you predominantly going for walleye, smallmouth, or muskie?

Well, I know a couple of guys that had good days muskie fishing in 2003. A member of First Wisc, Muskies, Inc got 5 in a day castingin July 2003. The fish ranged in length frmo 37-49 inches and we have the pictures to prove it.

http://www.sportsmansresource.com/myliesplace/fish2003_july.htm (go towards the bottom to see Len's cathes of the day.

Also, a reader of this board got 3 muskies on in a day trolling in October. I believe they were 39, 47 and 49, but I could be wrong on that. He could have got more too, but he was: a) by himself and b) took a treble hook through the finger on the 49 incher, which was the third of the day. I haven't been sent those pictures yet, but he keeps telling me it will be soon.

Not too bad for a fish that is suppoed to be hard to catch, huh?

Justin

   Hey Max,

Why Nestor? It is a nice area, but you are cutting off so much of the water you can fish. You're missing out on great areas like Dawson, Painted Rock and further west. Also, hot holes like Obakikon and Miles Bay are so far to run.

I see so many people from Nestor in the summer having to stop in Morson to gas up before they head back. Seems like a shame to spend so much time running out to the spots.

Justin:
This is our 1st trip so I am new to LOTW. How far of a run is it to some of these areas. I will be bringing a 17' Ranger with a 115hp mercury. I would hope there are some nice areas to fish in this area and we plan on trailering around a little regardless of where we would be staying. Thanks for the help. Max

I live in Nestor Falls from mid May to mid Sept. Great little town with real nice people. I caught over 60 muskies last year over 40". The biggest was 52".

Why stay in Nestor Falls? Well, you can fish LOTW, Crow (lake trout, great smallmouth, big muskies and northern), Whitefish Bay, Steven's Bay, famous Stoney Portage Bay, Burrow Bay, etc. without having to run thirty miles by boat. All my muskies were caught within 15-20 miles of Nestor Falls by water. Most within 12 miles. There is a really nice grocery store, tavern/restaurant (Green's), Lawg Cabyn restaurant, Nestor Falls UCC church, a catholic church, a great ice cream shop, several fly-in services, a couple of good bait shops, Helliars for quick groceries, gifts, gas, minnows.

I don't know what else to say. Oh wait a minute....another good reason is that I live there. Drop me an email before you come up and I'll mark up a map for you or take you fishing if I am guest free. I have fished this area for 50 years. All of them in Nestor Falls. Look forward to meeting you.

   Hey Bob:

I have ben coming to Nestor Falls for the past 18 years. I absolutely love your town and Lake of the Woods. I will be there this year from July 17 through July 24. Would you mind corresponding with me at my office over the next few days? I would like to know if any algae bloom is on the water yet and what the weather was/will be like just prior to me leaving to drive up from Dallas, Texas. I will be leaving Dallas the morning of the 15th. I am predominantly a muske fisherman, but I like walleye, smallmouth an northern as well. For the first time I am bringing my 9 and 1/2 year old son up this year. I will be staying at Omer's (C&C). Any help, advice, tips or news...particulary weather and fishing reports would be greatly appreciated. My work email addres is alan.gohlke@liquidenviro.com.

Thanks,

Alang

One day last June I was out by myself fishing the reefs near Firebag. It was a sunny, warm, and calm day. I used up 6 dozen minnows entirely. I couldn't even eat a sandwich with my lure in the water because the biting was so good! No pigs but lots of fun, and very few other boats.
