   Hey Bazil,

How about a report from an ice out laker fishing trip? They put up a fight that is closer to a muskie's fight than a walleye does. My friend and I went up to a lake East of LOW May 1st and 2nd. We did really well on lakers that were running between 5# and 10#. I'll be up at LOW from May 26th to the 30th. I will be fishing eyes on that trip. You need to get up to the trailer and chase big northerns until the muskie season gets here. When does muskie season start in Ontario anyway?

   Hey Eastie,

Bazil can legally cast for muskies the 3rd Saturday of June each summer. It'll be June 19 this year. See you in a week or so.

That's five weeks! I'm not sure if Bazil can make it. He might have to get one of those software programs where he can pretend to fish, get a hook barb in his finger, etc. See ya up at LOW soon.

Opener was slow for most groups I spoke with around the Morson area. Water temps were around 42-43 and that is just way too cold for a normal spring bite.

One group of guys was able to have a nice shorelunch and bring a couple in and throw a few back. A 25" walleye was the biggest they caught (and released.) Most of the walleyes were offshore in about 22 feet of water.

Other fish caught were 36 and 38 inch Northerns, a 48" muskie while walleye fishing and a couple smallmouth around 18".

We need some sunshine in a hurry.

Good luck to everyone.

Thanks for the update, Justin. Anyone have any current info on water temps up there? With the relatively warmer weather I would hope they would be rising steadily from the mid 40's. I'll be up there Thursday for a long weekend to see what we can find.

Rich

no cant wait till the opener ill have to fish the minnesota muskie opener eastwind and hopefully keep the hooks out of my hands. scary part is it could happen again hope not though worst part was being alone in the boat hooked up with a 30 lb muskie if that fish would started to thrash it would been way worse but it stayed still giving me time to get my hook cutter out to cut the hooks. that lake trout trip sounds fun well prob see you soon on the woods thanks for the fishing reports guys

Slow, slow, and slow is the best description for the walleye fishing on the opener. No walleyes, 2 northern and 1 34" muskie for the weekend. Once I realized the fishing was going to be so poor, I spent more time messing around at the cabin vs. in the boat. It is nice to see the water levels somewhat back to normal if there is such a thing. Hopefully when the water clears up a little and gets a little warmer the fish catching will improve.
Did that guy with the stalled 115hp yamaha out in Oscars Bay make it in?

Hey Eastwind, See you made it through the winter. We'll be up fishin' out of Grassy from July 30 - Aug 10 and again Oct 8 - 17. Any chance of seeing you at our spot in Miles Bay? If you want to share some of those hot spots in Little Traverse you discovered last Oct. let me know. Looking forward to a great season.

Water temp was 49 degrees today (May 18.) Walleyes were biting in 15-22 feet of water. Another 25 inch released today. Less experienced anglers having a tough time with walleyes. Lots of little snaked in OB and even some crappies in Miles.

   Hey Eastie,

Dave's group got some walleyes yesterday. Been catching some crappies too I think. I believe they went up to OB for a few northerns too.

I'm thinking this weekend things will start to really turn on if we can keep the sun out. A little rain today and cloudy.

Justin
