"Nestor Falls"

I'm fishng out of Nestor Falls in a week or so and was wondering where one could get into some decent Walleye fishing? How far do I have to travel to find good Walleye - Hay Island?? Thanks for any responses. |

Hi Bob, I don't know about the turnover, but when we were down about three weeks ago the water level was quite high (at least relative to the last couple of years). In talking to the locals they felt that the water level was about where it should be (that is, it was at a good level) and in boating the lake there was a lot of water cover on some of the more obvious obstructions. Plus we caught a lot of Walleye. A few in the plus 24 range. With respect to the turnover, Bob Pieske is the guy to ask. I suggest you post a new question to the site and head it with 'Question for Bob Pieske - Turnover at Nestor Falls'. Bob's great at getting a response back and knows this area of LOW really well.

Jack, You would actually catch a lot more of the same size ( 10" to 13" typical) if you fished the narrows at the top of Rabbit Island. Just fish the hump to the North side of the channel where the channel on the top of Rabbit isthe narrowest. This is a popular spot so you should see other boats coming and going from there. Also, if you fish the Northeast corner of Miles Bay ( just East of the top of Boomstick Island) you will pick up crappies and many small walleyes mixed in. Otherwise, I would look to fish areas closer to Nestor Falls where the water narrows ( ie between two islands) or droppoffs off of the ends of islands. If you are not catching fish keep moving and you will find them and learn the spots that you want to fish at this time of year. Good Luck and have fun. |

Jack Thanks for that information. Ive been fishing LOTW a long time, but the last two years have not been kind to my motor. About the large walleye, Hay is my favorite but our biggest ones in the last five years we cought in stevens. The only problem with stevens is that your so limited on places in there to fish in the fall. Thanks again for your help. |

Hi Eastwind! I see your posts on here from time to time and appreciate the info. You referred to the NE side of Miles for crappies and walleyes. I know of an area in the NE corner, but isn't that a ways from Boomstick? I thought Boomstick was over on the West side of Miles. The area I'm thinking of is NE of Smokehouse. Where do you stay up there? Must be close to where we are in the NW part of Sabaskong since I see you refer to Morson occasionally. Thanks again for your input. Rich |

You're right ( duh!!) it is Smokehouse Island that I meant. So many islands, so little time, eh? We fish just East of the top of Smokehouse in what we call " Bottleneck Bay" for crappies in the Spring and Fall. As you probably know, lots of people also fish to the North N.West of there at Thomson Creek. I don't care for Thomson Creek as it has never produced as well for us as Bottleneck bay does. We stay at Mylie's when we go to LOW. I always go up in the Spring around Memorial Day, in mid July and then again in early October. Hey, I'll be damned, that's this weekend. Better start getting ready, eh? I listen to channel 14 or channel 68 so give me a shout and we can compare notes if you are up there this weekend. We'll be six of us in two boats, a tan Crestliner ( mine ) and a white and green Warrior ( my friends boat, although his boys and their friend will be in that one this weekend). |
