"Advice for August needed"

We're going to be back up at Lake of the Woods for the first time since 2001. We usually go in late June / early July, but this year we'll be heading up during the second week of August. We'll be up in the Sabaskong Bay area. We looking for northern pike, muskie, and smallmouth bass. Any advice as far as what lures and colors?
Thank you,
Bhomis

   LAST

Sabaskong can get pretty bloomy by that time of year. If you search, you can find pretty clear water depending on the wind. In August I like Topwaters, bright large spinners like the Slopmaster, and jerkbaits or gliders...large and bright.
I live on Sabaskong from May to mid Sept. Post a message for me here in late July or early August and I'll give you more info about what's going on then. If I can, I'll get together with you and fill you in personally. I live in Nestor Falls, across the bay from Tinker's. If you are staying close by we can get together. Good luck!

Hey guys, thanks for the info.
Bloomy? Hmmm... Should I assume you mean more weed choked with the cabbage higher and thicker, or algea gunk floating around?
You both mentioned bucktails as being the ticket, which is cool because I enjoy using spinners and spinnerbaits. Can you give me some examples of exactly which ones you think might work best, along with the colors so I can check them out online? Same for jerkbaits too. What do you guys think of crankbaits and/or spoons for early/mid August?
How about depth? Is the fishing strategy the same then as it is in early July?
Maybe I'll see you both.
Thanks again,
Bruce

   Hey Bhomis,

We'll certainly be in touch often between now and your trip so we'll keep you posted on what's been going on. Chartreusse was the hot colour last summer, but that's not to say it will be the same this year. Bazil will be a great guy to talk to when you get up there, as well as Dick Moore and some others that will be around.

Catch you soon, man.

Justin

   Guys,
I just got the Rollie & Helen's Musky Shop catalog over the week end, and shoot, I'd like to pick out a few things from every page. It would nice to be able to afford that too... Do you guys have any mid-summer favorites from that catalog?
I've got a lot of stuff left over from the last time up there. I have a few Mepps Musky Killers in chartreuse, orange, and fire tiger, a bunch of one ounce spinnerbaits with silver blades and rubber skirts in chartreuse, white, orange, etc., some 5 or 6 inch jointed Rapalas in chartreuse, fire tiger, orange, clown, etc., a Suick Thriller in chartreuse, and a buch of other similar stuff. Basically, if you had to guess, am I on the right track?
Please keep me posted as to what's working for muskie & northerns as the season gets going.
Thanks again,
Bruce
