About the reel splint
Hopefully, you have an occupational therapist available to help create this splint. If you do not have access to an occupational therapist, try to find someone else who is somewhat handy to assist you in the creation of this splint. You can use or adapt other less expensive materiel, but you will find that conventional splinting material such as Orthoplast or Kay-Splint will work best.
The splint is basically an easy concept. Mold the splinting material around sides and bottom of your forearm and hand. Next, use some splinting material to form a tubular loop. Mold this loop to the bottom of the splint, underneath the hand area. This tubular loop is what you will use to reel in the fishing line. Add velcro straps where appropriate to keep the splint from falling off. Use the photographs on this page as an example. For a larger example, click on any of the photographs.
