How to go fishing with a spinning reel...
My method for fishing with a spinning reel involves a reel mount that greatly differs from the reel mount I use for other types of fishing. For a better understanding, I strongly suggest taking a look at the reel mount page. You may also want to visit the rod splint and reel splint pages first as well.

HOW TO CAST

1. My method of casting with a spinning reel begins by using the loop of the reel splint to press and hold down the lever that rests against the reel’s trigger. This in turn flips the bail.

2. Keep pressure down on the lever, and the reel automatically holds the line in place.

3. Bring your casting arm (arm with fishing rod) back.

4. When ready, swing your casting arm forward forcefully. While swinging your arm forward, as the rod tip approaches the direction of where you want to cast, release your other hand from the lever and the line will cast.

To flip the bail, slip the tube of the reel splint over the reel handle and gently turn. This will flip the bail. You can now retrieve your lure, or keep your line out in the water. When you feel a strike, set the hook and retrieve.

Personal Recommendation
This method of fishing is obviously unconventional, so why not take its unconventionality one step further? Rather than use a spinning rod, try using a strong fly rod. You will find that its longer length, lighter weight, and extra "whip" action will help in producing longer casts with less fatigue. Personally, I prefer to use a nine or ten weight rod, at least nine feet long.
