September 2006 Fish Pictures

Mylie's Place Resort in Sabaskong Bay on Lake of the Woods

Ok, so the first two fish were actually caught the last day of August, but it's part of the September Labour Day Weekend so I'm posting them with the rest of September's photos.  Complaints can be emailed directly to the complaint department. HAHA We've got a little bit of muskie, crappie and walleye action featured, so enjoy!  Click on the photos to enlarge.

Day 1 of the Labour Day extra long muskie weekend started off well for Team WFO as the first spot of the first morning gave up Dusty's 50 incher.  Mike bagged the fat 41.5" muskie above as well.

51.5 inches - Sept 2, 2006
Day 2 was a little slow, but Day 3 more than made up for it with 5 nice fish, including Mike's 51.5 inch HAWG that puts him out front for the largest muskie release of 2006.  Day 4 was again slow, but it looks like a pretty successful weekend of fishing to me.  I learned the secret to Team WFO's success on Lake of the Woods as well.  Fish in your boxer shorts.  Right guys?

Mike also put in a good word for us with Joe Gross, who came up for some Labour Day Weekend fishing as well.  I think the will be glad they did.  Here are some of their fish.

After going hard all day for 3 full days (morning til almost dark,) Andrew was finally rewarded with a big fish.  A big blow up didn't result in a hook up the night before and he thought that might have been his last chance for something large.  However, the fish gods rewarded the youngesters perserverence when he landed a very nice 37 inch northern the last morning of the trip.  His Dad also caught a great 41 incher northern that morning.  It's a good thing they went out for a few more casts.  Well done.  Great results, especially for their first time up to LOW.

Randy B was back for a muskie long weekend and they put a few fish in the boat as well.  Well, Ronda did anyway.  Randy's lost his mojo the last couple of weekend trips it seems.  Oh well, trolling time is coming soon, Randy.  That's your time.  Here are two of Ronda's fish from the weekend.

Josh Mills bagged  a nice 22" walleye on Sept 1.  Josh was my net man for the 49.5 inch muskie I caught in June.  It's nice to see the fish gods give him a little reward for his efforts.

When Allan arrived from Saskatchewan in July for a couple weeks of fishing, he claimed he had caught pretty much everything Lake of the Woods had to offer, except a muskie.  So that was his goal.  Despite giving it more than the good ole college try, he came up empty handed.  Having a couple strikes and some follows.
Allan Nichols's (Saskatchewan) first ever muskie
                                                                               43" - Sept 3, 2006
A return trip for the Labour Day weekend meant the pressure was on.  I took him out for a few hours on Saturday night and we got blanked, except for a decent sized northern.  It looked like a northern weekend for Allan when he landed 3 northerns on Sunday while we were out fishing with my Uncle George, who does some guiding on the lake during the summer.  However, around 3 pm on that Sunday, after numerous nice fish followed several different of Allan's baits up to the boat, something grabbed his spinner bait about 3/4 of the way out on the cast and didn't spit it out until it was safely in the bottom of the big beckman net after a very good hard fight.  Congrats, Allan.  It was a lot of fun watching you land that fish.

I managed a 44 incher that day as well.  My 5th muskie of the year and the 3rd on a figure 8 so I was pretty excited about that.  I had a chance for my first ever 2 muskie casting day, but I blew it when I thought a little tug on the bait right up against the shoreline was a weed.  Weeds don't make big splashes when the let go.  DAMMIT!

All in all, a great Labour Day weekend.  I hope to get a 26 inch walleye online that was caught on Sept 5, as well as any other fish pictures I may receive from the weekend's activities.

And now for the rest of September's hot fishing action.

The Tangen Party had some of their best fishing ever in 2006 for their annual September trip.  Here are the spoils from a good day of both crappie and walleye fishing.

The DeGoey Party proving that you CAN catch muskies during and after a cold front.  Here are the two big ones of the week.
