The number of 50 inch class fish landed
was down a little bit this year, but there number of big fish seen and
hooked was probably better than previous years. Even your
favourite website author may have had had a couple of chances at a big
one. One particular instance ended in heartbreak when the fish
barrel rolled and pulled the big treble hook out of it's snout, which
was poorly hooked to begin with. I'm sure I'm not the first
muskie angler to end up on their knees looking at the sky after a nice
battle with a big fish, but I hope I don't have to experience that
again anytime soon! I was also there to witness Randy B wrestle
with a fish that was going to make it awfully close to the 50 inch
class, but that wasn't to be either. The great news is the
number of 47-49 inch fish that were landed this year. I don't
remember a year with this many fish in the upper 40 inch range.
Congrats to our new and returning 50 club members on landing great
trophy fish year. Special congratulations to Jim Willford for
catching and releasing a legal Lake of the woods muskie.

After netting a couple of 50 plus inch
muskies for her husband Tom in the previous few years, Lois was able to
land the big one in 2007. Congrats on muskie of a lifetime and

Woods, my muskie mentor and good buddy finally got his casting
50 on a Bailey Tail made by David Swenson. Congrats and well
deserved, Baz.
