All About Mylie's Place Resort
Your
Hosts: Daryl, Ellen & Justin Gaudry
In 1992, when ownership of
Mylie's Place reverted back to Mylie Gaudry after 10 years out of the
family, Daryl (Mylie's second oldest son) got involved in
an ownership group that he bought out during the early years to became
the sole owner of the resort. The 2009 season will be the 18th
year that Daryl, his wife Ellen & and number 1 son Justin have been
taking care of
resort guests with a level of service and committment that has helped
create a loyal, growing customer base. Ellen manages the office
and oversees the entire operation. After starting out working
summer and weekends, Justin has been taking care of outside operations
and pitching in whevever he can (website, bookwork, etc) on a full time
basis since 1997. Justin graduated from high school in 1995 and
then pursued post secondary studies in the fall of 1995 and 1996 full
time. He took a year away from his studies and worked full time
for the resort in 1997 and then returned to part time pursuit of his
degree in 1998. He FINALLY received his diploma in May 2008 after
all those years taking the few courses at a time that the seasonal
nature of the resort business allowed.
The Gaudry Family has now owned
and operated Mylie's Place Resort for 40 years out of the 50 years that
have passed since Mylie Gaudry purchased "Fred's Place" from Fred
Vauthey in 1959. We hope is that your first trip to Mylie's Place
will be make you want to continue enjoying the great Canadian
experience that only Lake of the Woods can provide. Our goal has
always been to provide the type of service and attention that will
allow first time customers that may have arrived as strangers, to
depart as friends and then return as memebers of the Mylie's Place
family.
What Can
You Expect From Your Hosts?
Ellen and Justin manage the day to day operation of
the resort and 99.9% of the time, at least one of them is available to
answer questions, address any concerns and generally just be there for
whatever reason they might be needed as part of the usual routine of
taking care of the resort and its guests. While still working
full time for Ontario Power Generation, Daryl takes time off in the
spring to help with start up work and then provides support on weekends
throughout the season. We do our best to maintain and upgrade
facilities on a regular basis so that they are in good working order
for you during your stay. We aren't always able to check that
every single thing in each cabin (toaster, coffee maker, shower head,
etc.) is functioning the way it should be so we ask you to let us know
when anything isn't working 100% so we can check it out and take care
of it for you. We have things like new toasters and coffee makers
in boxes, as well as back-up stoves and fridges. We promise to do
everything we can to solve any problems that are brought to our
attention and pledge to do the best we can to be prepared for some of
the possibilities that can happen during a season. Due to our
wilderness location at the end of HWY 621, it's not always easy to go
pick up a fridge, stove or coffee maker down the street. We've
planned ahead for the possibility that things do need to be replaced
from time to time. We also promise to do our best to make
the resort pleasing to the eye so that you will feel enjoy your time
both on the lake, and on land while you visit us. We have a
small, but dedicated staff that assist us in providing you great
service during your stay. We try to get by with the minimum of
hired help because we feel it's important for our guests to see
that we are working for them and are in touch with everything involving
the resort on a day to day basis throughout the season.

A Brief
History of Mylie's Place Resort

Mylie Gaudry achieved his dream of owning a fishing resort when he
purchased Fred's Place from Fred Vauthey in 1959. A few years
later, he renamed the business Mylie's Place Resort. The 2009 season
will mark the 50th anniversary of Mylie's purchase of the resort.
When Daryl took
over ownership of the resort in 1992, it had been out of the family for
10 years and was badly in need of some TLC. The first upgrade was
done the following year in the form of a new septic system. Over
the years, each and every cabin was stipped down to the bare studs and
rebuilt and upgraded inside. Once the insides were up to
standards, the outsides were improved with vinyl siding.
Maintenance
and improvements are still being made on a regular basis in the form of
new beds, flooring, A/C units, etc. Docks were built, repaired
and maintained on a regular basis until we installed our floating dock
system early in the new millenium. The floating docks have been a
wonderful upgrade and we continue to maintain them and find better and
stronger ways to anchor them so that they can withstand some of the
strong winds that come our way from the northeast on occasion.

I hope to add some more historical
photos of the resort we have come across over the years. I will
make them available on the photo page if/when I can get them scanned
and added to the website. Thank you to Peter Granger and family
for giving us the postcard that is pictures above when they found it
going through some family belongings.
