What does Mylie's Place have to offer?? Find out some general information on the resort and some of the activities available when you vacation in Canada on beautiful Lake of the Woods . Where are we? Click the map link for a general idea of where Morson is located. We're only about 40 miles north of the border at Baudette, MN. Turn left onto Vauthey Road off of HWY 621, just past Morson. For other common questions, visit the Frequently Asked Questions page.
The Morson Advantage
Do you fish Miles Bay, Obakikon Lake, Dawson Island, Hay Island? Why
stay in Nestor Falls and spend half your day running to the areas you
want to fish? We are 6-10 miles from these hot spots. How about the
Basil Channel, Stevens Bay and/or Stoney Portage for muskies? We're
right in the centre of all the best muskie action on the south end of
Lake of the Woods. Try staying in Morson, where you can FISH
MORE AND SPEND LESS!
WHY GO FURTHER??
Lake of the Woods is truly an awesome fishery and should be considered
an even more desirable destination in this period of economic
instability because of its close proximity to the US border compared to
areas much further north. The Morson area has everything you need for a
great vacation, including the new 9 hole Spruce Creek Golf Course.
What better way to spend a day off the water than on the golf course.
With trophy class fish (please practice CPR Fishing; Catch, Photo, and
Release) in several species available, you can't go wrong with a trip
to "The Woods." We're 40 miles from the border at Baudette, MN and you
can be fishing within an hour
of crossing the border. Spend less time driving and more time
fishing with a stay in Morson, Ontario on Lake of the Woods.

Operation Muskie Online Auction Results: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
WOW!! That was the reaction many times after bidding ending on many of
the live auction lots the night of March 3, 2009. The online auctions
to
support Operation
Muskie raised over $17,000 for this years trip. It
was incredible the way a fairly small group of people were able to
raise so much money for a great event. Mylie's Place is pleased to have
been a small
part of the festivities and we look forward to meeting the anglers that
will be spending time with us as a result of winning bids. The
generosity of some of the particpants was amazing. More than one,
someone made a winning bid on an item or package and immediately
offered to just donate their bid and allow
the lot to be auctioned off again. One lot of baits was auctioned off 4
times and raised $495. To view complete results and some post auction
comments, click on the
Online
Auction Results Thread on the MuskieFirst discussion board. It
would
appear that respect for Vets is no match for all the gloomy economic
reports and forecasts out there. Congrats to all of those involved in
getting the auction organized, especially those that
bid on the items generously made available for fundraising purposes. We
are already looking forward to 2010 with hopes that the auction will
take place again to support another "Operation." Look for a regular
link with information about Operation Muskie on this site, particularly
links to those that have donated
their time, equipement and abilities for the trip. What a great way to
say thank you to some of the troops that help preserve freedoms like
the open border between Canada and the USA that
allows convenient crossing for all of those that want to spend time on
Lake of the Woods.
Improvements in 2009
We went with Simmons Deep Sleep Premier Plush twin bed sets for the new
beds we had delivered this spring. We replace half of the beds in camp
this year and the other half will arrive next spring. Our new rental
boat has been given rave reviews by every group that has used it so
far. The G3
Guide V16 boat is equipped with a new leased 40 HP Yamaha 4-stroke
tiller engine
with electric start, EFI, and troll down capability that will see it
move down to 2 cylanders at low speeds. The boat includes the factory
floor option and allows 4 people to fish comfortably with the 84" wide
beam that creates a lot more room than a traditional 16 foot skiff.
This boat and motor combination will be great for
groups of 4 people that want to be in the same boat or groups of 3 that
want to fish with a guide.
Benefits of Charging Canadian Funds with the Exchange Rate
Exchange rates have already changed significantly since February and
March. To view the daily exchange rate information provided by the bank
we deal with, visit the Royal
Bank Foreign Exchange Rates webpage. Scroll down
near the end of the alphabetical list to find rates for US dollars.
This will give you an idea of what kind of exchange rate you might
expect on your desposit if you send a check. Most credit card still
charge a 2.5%-3.0% foreign exchange service fee so keep
that in mind as well. If anyone has questions about the exchange rate
and the best way to pay for your trip, don't hesitate to
contact us anytime.
Passport/Passport Card Information
The Western
Hemisphere Travel Initiative went into full implementation on June
1, 2009. Please be aware of the requirements for re-entry into the
United States and the options
you have for securing the proper documentation. For those of you
without a full passport and have no plans to fly out of the US and back
in the near future, a PASSPORT CARD may be the best option
for you. Please click the following link for more information: Passport
Card Information. A passport card is significantly
cheaper to purchase and will be valid for land entry ports. A full
passport will still be required for all entry to the US via air travel.
Please note that CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 DO NOT NEED a
passport or passport card. The current documentation of a birth
certificate will be sufficient until the age of 16. There are also
other forms of secure ID (Nexus card, etc) that are available so please
investigate which one
is the best for you in your current situation.
I have updated some of the photo pages so visit the Main Fish Picture Page to see what people catch up here in Canada.
A SAD ANNOUNCEMENT
Mylie Gaudry passed away peacefully on November 25, 2007 as a result of
complications from a fall in his room at the long-term care ward of the
Rainy
River Hospital. Grandpa had been living in the long-term ward for the
past 2.5 years. He was very happy in his surroundings after having to
leave
his home on Lake of the Woods. He was very fond of all the staff at
Rainy River Hospital and our family is very thankful for the wonderful
care they
provided for him during his time there. Please click on the Funeral Service Information Page to get details
regarding the service and address information for cards of condolence.
